Title: Astrophysique et spectroscopie. Communications présentées au
vingtième Colloque International d'Astrophysique, tenue à Liège,
    les 17, 18, 19 et 20 Juin 1975.
Authors: Migeotte, M.
Bibcode: 1975MSRSL...9.....M
Altcode: 1975apes.conf.....M
The papers deal with astronomical spectroscopic techniques,
planetary and cometary spectroscopy, and observations of hot stars,
cold stars, and interstellar molecules. Topics include solar UV line
identifications, spectral studies of late N-type carbon stars, recent
advances in ground-based planetary spectroscopy, the possible formation
of a 'cometary nebula' in the inner solar system, cometary spectra
and tails, and the chemical nature of cometary snows. Other papers
discuss properties of Of, WR, and P Cygni stars; forbidden lines in
astronomical objects; physical properties of post-novae, white dwarfs,
and hot subdwarfs; spectra of central stars of planetary nebulae; and
observations of symbiotic stars. Attention is also given to the study of
typical O-star complexes, a cosmological metric in which black holes do
not exist, UV observations of Beta Lyrae, and condensation processes in
hot interstellar clouds. Individual items are announced in this issue.

Title: Astronomy in the infrared
Authors: Migeotte, M. V.
Bibcode: 1974BARB...60.1550M
Altcode:
Recent progress in three areas of infrared astronomy is reviewed. These
are the IR spectrum of the sun, excess IR observations, and observations
of stars in the process of formation. Attention is drawn to the
advantages of using large telescopes for these realms of study. A
discussion of the difficulties involved in ground-based IR astronomy
and of the unique benefits to be derived from observation in this
wavelength region precedes the review. Future perspectives are also
  briefly outlined.

Title: Fine Structure of N_{2}O Bands in the Infrared Solar Spectrum.
Authors: Migeotte, Marcel V.
Bibcode: 1950ApJ...112..136M
Altcode:
Absorption bands due to N in the earth's atmosphere have been observed
  and resolved under high dispersion near 8.6 M, 4.5 , and 3.9 . The
first of these is the band 2p2 observed by Plyler and Barker, while
the second is the fundamental P3. This band is readily resolved in
the atmosphere but is difficult to resolve in the laboratory. The N2O
band at 3.9 was observed and resolved in an exploration but was not
measured again owing to technical difficulties.

Title: Methane in the Earth's Atmosphere.
Authors: Migeotte, Marcel V.
Bibcode: 1948ApJ...107..400M
Altcode:
A study of the solar spectrum, under high resolving power, in the 3.3-j~
region has revealed the pres- ence of thirteen regularly spaced lines
which have been identified as methane lines

Title: New identifications in the infra-red solar spectrum.
Authors: Migeotte, Marcel V.
Bibcode: 1948AJ.....54R..45M
Altcode:
Portions of the infra-red solar spectrum have been mapped, within the
last six months, by using a new prism-grating spectrograph constructed
by Dr. R. Noble, under the direction of Prof. H. H. Nielsen. The
spectral regions from 2.8~ to 5.I~ and from 7~ to I I .7~ were recorded,
under high resolving power, by using gratings having respectively
7200 and 3600 lines per inch. These new observations have led to the
discovery, in January 1948, of methane in the earth's atmosphere. The
identification was determined by the appearance of the 3.4~~ band of CH4
in the solar spectrum. Later on, the 7.7~ band of CH4 was also found
in the solar spectrum. In a paper published in May 1948, R. McMath,
  0. Mohler, and L. Goldberg3 have reported additional evidence of
atmospheric methane. The new solar spectrograms also disclosed the
  bands of N1O at 3.9j , 4.5~, and 8.6~. The atmospheric N1O was first
proposed by A. Adel4 in 1939 to explain a band appearing at 7.6~ in
the prismatic solar spectrum. In 1941, the same author1 also claimed
to have identified the fine structure of the 7.6~ band of N1O in the
solar spectrum. However, in 1943, Sutherland and Calendar6 pointed
out that the evidence of N1O, while very strong, was not entirely
conclusive. Our observations prove without doubt the existence of
the atmospheric N1O. Besides lines of CH4 and N1O, many other new
lines have also been observed. Identifications are underway. Because
of the presence of methane in the earth's atmosphere, ammonia might
also be expected, since the molecules CH4 and NH3 are found existing
simultaneously in other planets. One of the most intense bands of
ammonia is situated in the I0.5~ region. The fine structures of
the Q branches have been observed recently by R. Chapman, in this
laboratory, by using the same spectrograph that was available for
the solar work. A comparison has been made between the new laboratory
data, the new solar spectrograms, and those obtained by A. Adel7 in
Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1940. From this comparison, it may be concluded
that there was no evidence of ammonia in the portion of the earth's
atmosphere under investigation. The work described in this paper was
carried out, in part, under Contract W~~-o38-ac-~~~85 between the
Air Materiel Command Wright- Patterson Air Force Base and the Ohio
